The global coronavirus tally has now surpassed 216.3 million, while the death toll stands at over 4.5 million, according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Centre.
The United States has the highest death toll and overall coronavirus tally, with 38.7 million infected and 637,525 fatalities. At the same time, the daily average of new COVID-19 cases in the US has risen to over 151,000 and more than 48 percent of Americans are not fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci earlier stated that the US has a greater number of coronavirus deaths than the officially reported figures.
The US is followed by India (32.6 million cases and a death toll of over 437,000) and Brazil (20.7 million cases, 579,308 deaths).
